THINK SASA
Think SASA is located in Mweiga, Nyeri County. Think SASA comprises of three branches namely: ThinkWords Book club, ThinkYouth and Think ECDE. The main aim of the SASA is to nurture skills development in children, youth empowerment and capacity building for EYE teachers.
It has been reported that the book club members have improved in general school performance. This is because the learners not only read for leisure but also use the platform as a form of comprehensive revision. The club founder, Catherine Njore participated and made a presentation at the 29th International Cartographic Conference in Tokyo, Japan of the maps drawn by children in July 2019.
The main objectives of ThinkWords book club are:
1. To provide a supportive environment where children can freely express themselves in personal writing and drawing.
2. To encourage use of maps by children; fun with maps!
3. To get children spend less time on TV and other electronic gadgets.
4. Promote parent-child bonding during the book club meetings.
ThinkYouth members have been involved in visiting primary and secondary schools to talk with the learners, advice and share experiences. They also are part of the volunteers coordinating ThinkWords book club activities; reading, writing and map making. There is marked personal transformation in the ThinkYouth members some having started their own initiatives since. 2020 plans were partly interrupted by the Covid-19 pandemic lockdown.
Think SASA hopes to engage the community in profitable activities especially the youth to provide positive use of time.
